Radio Index from Belgrade, Yugoslavia, broadcasting live on the Internet under the EE-Radio Relay Project.
Radio Index, one of the most listened to stations from Belgrade, Yugoslavia, can now be heard by a whole world on the Internet.
Radio Index joined the EE-Radio Relay Project in the hardest of times for them and for all the independent media from Yugoslavia. For the last 8 years, Radio Index has constantly been exposed to oppression by Milošević regime - it was banned twice (December 1996 and October 1998), editor-in-chief was illegally discharged (November 1998) and was criminally prosecuted for "unauthorized possession of a radio station and broadcast of radio program" (November 1998). In May 2000, Radio Index was shut down by the government along with Belgrade City broadcaster Studio B and Radio B2-92. Once again it fought back and survived.
Regardless of the ways of harassment, Radio Index has been managing to stick to the initial program guidelines and principles, even within the highly restrictive regulatory environment, which exists today in Yugoslavia. Through Radio Index, the positions of both the opposition and the government in Serbia can be heard.
WIth the help of the EE-Radio, the voice of Radio Index grew stronger and louder than ever. Millions of people across the world can now benefit of the objective, unbiased reporting that Index delivers everyday to its listeners.
